Weather in San Cristobal
Because San Cristobal de las Casas lies in the highlands at about 8200ft (2500m), its temperate climate stays refreshingly cool most of the year, especially in the mornings and evenings.
It can get pretty warm in day, however, and in the summer even reach the mid-to-upper 80°Fs (30°Cs), although the average is around 72°F (22°C). In the winter it can be downright cold with daytime highs reaching the upper 60°Fs (20°Cs), but nighttime lows around 45°F (7°C), with frequent freezes from November to March.
You’ll definitely want a jacket for the evenings, even in the summer, and something heavier than that for the winter. But then hey, there’s an excuse to cuddle up with a hot Mexican chocolate and your Spanish book!
San Cristobal’s high humidity helps its countryside stay green and lush. The rainy season falls in the summer (June – September), with those two months being the rainiest. At the tail end of that, the intense rains are due to hurricane season, although the actual hurricanes don’t really reach the city since it’s inland. If you’re planning your trip for those months, be sure to bring raingear too
