Tropical Beach Weather in Playa del Carmen
All days in Playa del Carmen are on the warm side of warm. (Did we mention that it’s warm?) And humid. Fortunately you’ll be at the beach, where there’s also often a breeze. And hey, you can jump in the water to cool off too!
From February to May, “spring” comes oddly with few spring showers but highs in the upper 80°Fs (31°C) and just-barely-lows of 66°F (19°C) or so. All summer things heat up to highs in the low 90°Fs (33°C) and cool off somewhat in the evenings to around 70°F (21°C).
Chaac, the Mayan rain god, tries to bring the mercury down a tad too during that same summer time with a fair amount of the wet stuff, especially in the form of short-but-heavy afternoon and evening storms. His most active months are August, September, and October.
November, December, and January see less rain and are the coolest months with highs in the mid 80°Fs (30°C), dipping to 65°F (18°C) at night.
On very rare occasions, hurricanes have hit Playa during rainy season, so you will want to check the weather report before a visit in those months.
So aside from the obligatory swimsuit, bring beachwear, something casually dressy for going out, a light jacket or sweater for the evenings or winter months, and raingear. And don’t forget sunscreen, a brimmed hat, and maybe some mosquito repellant if you’re sensitive. (Don’t worry; these last are easily acquired if you don’t remember or decide you need some once you’re there.)
